Company Overview

Resort Properties of America is a Hotel Casino Brokerage specialist and hospitality advisor working exclusively in the resort corridor. Led by David F. Atwell, the company has become a leader in the field over its 30+ year tenure. They are regarded as one of the most distinguished hotel/casino brokers and investment advisors in the resort industry.

From the 1979 sales of Caesars Palace Forum Shops strip property assemblage, to the 1988 sale of the famous Dunes Hotel/Casino & Country Club, to the 2007 record breaking sale of the $1.2 billion Frontier Hotel to Elad of New York, Resort Properties of America continues to be a vital force in the Las Vegas scene.

David F. Atwell, Founder

David F. Atwell was the founder of Resort Properties of America and a Las Vegas resident since 1955. His family moved here from San Francisco and became prominent and active in the motel/hotel business.

David was a graduate of The University of Nevada Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s in 1974. He entered the Real Estate business with McKellar Realty/Development (where he learned from some of the best in the business) and gained extensive holdings in apartments, income properties, and motels.

In 1979, David founded a private brokerage, Resort Properties of America, specializing in motel/hotel/casino strip property transactions. The firm became well known after brokering the sale of “The Dunes” Hotel/Casino & Country Club (now MGM’s flagship “Bellagio”, as well as “City Center” and “Monte Carlo”), all extremely valuable properties at the time (to say the least). This was a landmark transaction, (the largest commissionable sale and the largest purchase in the state of Nevada) by a billionaire Japanese investor. The purchase was made in direct bidding competition with resort giants such as MGM, Hilton, Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn (who became David’s long-time friends and clients).

In keeping with his reputation of ‘big deal making’, David initiated the 2007 record breaking sale of the $1.2 Billion “Frontier Hotel” to ELAD of New York. The hotel has been imploded and the site designated for the $5 Billion “Plaza Las Vegas” (modeled after the famous “Plaza Hotel” in New York).

David Atwell passed away November 25, 2013 after a difficult battle with cancer. David’s oldest daughter, Heather Atwell has taken over the legendary business (after working side by side with her father for over 8 years).

Heather Atwell, CEO

Ms. Atwell, is living on her Father’s legendary business and continues to be a vital source in the Las Vegas market with global reach. She exclusively caters to select clientele from Asia and Middle East as well as her core long standing relationships in Las Vegas.

Heather also created a Foundation in Honor of their father, “Calling All Angels Foundation” to help bring awareness to alternative cancer treatments and help sponsor funding for people who can’t afford the treatments. www.CallingAllAngelsFoundation.com
